The film to its credit does not sensationalize the gore, in fact itРІР‚в„ўs relatively bloodless for a serial killer flick. Dahmer was serving a life sentence (sentenced to over a thousand years) for murdering 17 males of various races, when the 34-year-old was killed in prison two years after his 1992 conviction. Instead, justice came to him in the hands of another prisoner.

Dahmer should have been the poster boy for the death penalty. To make a film about Dahmer where these things are not explored not only downplays the severity of his crimes, but it also leaves out fairly essential aspects of DahmerРІР‚в„ўs character. He cannibalized victims and engaged in necrophilia. He had severed heads in his refrigerator.

He kept vats of acid in his apartment to dispose of body parts. Dahmer was a sick man who conducted experiments on his victims. In fact, we only see Dahmer kill two humans during the course of the film, and both are relatively not graphic, and relatively quick events.Р”Р„nd that is what made the film such a disappointment to me because I wanted the lurid details to be explored more. We see him constantly drinking alcohol through most of these events. We see actions taken by the police that would be unbelievable if we didnРІР‚в„ўt know that they actually happened that way, more or less. We see Dahmer discovering and trying to come to terms with his homosexuality in a twisted way. After about 20 minutes or so, the film becomes non-sequential, and links together a number of events that provide clues into DahmerРІР‚в„ўs behavior. Jeremy Renner, who plays Dahmer, does a fantastic job and looks a weirdly a little like him? And Writer/director David Jacobson did a good job in making this film a psychological portrait, rather than a chronological retelling of DahmerРІР‚в„ўs crimes. IРІР‚в„ўm not saying its a bad film, or not worth watching, you should definitely give it a chance. Now, If youРІР‚в„ўre a Dahmer fan or know anything about him really then this film may not be quite up to your expectationsРІР‚В¦ (I know it wasnРІР‚в„ўt for me) I would say that maybe it might be more enjoyable if your unfamiliar with the background material, but really it might be too disjointed and a little more confusing, you might need some familiarity with DahmerРІР‚в„ўs life to piece it together as your watching it. Based on real-life serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who was active primarily in Wisconsin in the 1980s, this film focuses on a few key episodes in his life.
